SPT NFL Power Rankings

The Broncos are stampeding through the Power Talk NFL rankings and the Giants just keep toying with bad teams.

Through five weeks the cream of the NFL is starting to separate itself.

This week's match up between the Giants and the Saints might be the regular season game of the year.

The Week 5 NFL Power teams:

1. (1) New York Giants (5-0) - The Giants defense is incredible week in and week out. They get a real test this week against Drew Brees and the New Orleans offense.

2. (2) New Orleans (4-0) - Drew Brees and his Saints can march into first place if they beat the Giants this week in the Superdome. This will be no easy task as this Giants defense is playing at a whole new level and Eli has a plethora of solid wide outs.

3. (3) Indianapolis (5-0) - Peyton Manning is in destroy mode this year. He is absolutely unstoppable and as long as he plays like this the Colts are nearly impossible to beat.

4. (4) Minnesota (5-0) - After an easy win this week against St.Louis it's back to reality this week as they play Baltimore. This will be one of the first real tests for AP and the rest of the Vikings offense.

5. (6) Denver (5-0) - Wow. The Denver Broncos keep on winning. Their defense did a great job in shutting down Tom Brady and company when they needed too. If Brandon Marshall can keep playing at a Pro Bowl level he might be the difference maker their offense needs.

6. (8) Philadelphia (3-1) - McNabb looked great in his first week back under center. Jeremy Maclin looks like a great pick and a good second option after Jackson. The defense dominated a poor Tampa team and they have another easy win coming this week against Oakland.

7. (9) Atlanta (3-1) - Matt Ryan tore apart a very good 49er defense. Roddy White might be taking his regular Pro Bowl form and if Turner can keep running like that Atlanta will be tough to beat.

8. (NR) Cincinnati (4-1) - Their only loss is to Denver on a fluke play. Sure they have beat Pittsburgh and Baltimore but they haven't really put up a dominating win yet so I have trouble ranking them higher than 8. Cincinnati's season has been great so far though.

9. (NR) Pittsburgh (3-2) - Rashard Mendenhall might be the answer for now in Steeltown at running back. While Big Ben is putting up great numbers and the defense looks like they will get Polamalu back this week the Steelers might be returning to form.

10. (10) New York Jets (3-2) - A tough, close loss to Miami but Edwards seems to be the difference maker that the offense needed. It looks like it will be a dead heat in the AFC East between the Jets and Pats for the division title.

On the Waiting List: Baltimore, Chicago, Green Bay, New England, San Francisco

NR - Not Ranked in last weeks poll.

SPT NFL Power Rankings

After Baltimore sat in the second spot in the rankings for the last two weeks they fall to seven. As New Orleans, Indianapolis and the New York Giants stay a top the rankings.

The Broncos have rocketed up the rankings the past two weeks. Can Denver keep their momentum through this tough stretch?

Greg Williams and his Saints defense made Mark Sanchez look like a rookie quarterback this week and its caused the Jets to fall to the tenth spot.

The Week 4 NFL Power Teams:

1. (1) New York Giants (4-0) - The Giants are toying with the weak teams on their schedule. With all of their defensive injuries, the defense has still been in the top five in the league. And Eli and his merry wide outs keep chuggin along.

2. (3) New Orleans (4-0) - Greg Williams has made the Saints defense a solid unit. They aren't outstanding but you don't need an outstanding defense when you have Brees on the offensive end.

3. (5) Indianapolis (4-0) - Peyton Manning. If he keeps putting up numbers like this, the Colts might make a good run towards Miami.

4. (4) Minnesota (4-0) - Brett Favre showed how stellar this Viking offense can be Monday Night against Green Bay. Adrian Peterson was mostly shut down in the second half but Brett Favre was Brett Favre and the Vikings are well on their way to an NFC North title.

5. (8) New England (3-1) - Big win for the Brady bunch on Sunday over Baltimore. Let's see if the offense can play well enough this week against the Denver 'Orange Crush' defense.

6. (10) Denver (4-0) - Defense. They have allowed 26 points in four weeks. That's less than a touchdown a week. That is incredible. Elvis Dummervil is having an amazing year after Denver moved to the 3-4 look. If they can beat New England this week, talk about a surprise team.

7. (2) Baltimore (3-1) - Where is the Baltimore defense? They finally have an offense that can put up points but the defense is shaky. Especially the secondary outside of Ed Reed they are getting killed out there.

8. (7) - Philadelphia (2-1) - Coming off their bye they will have a healthy Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook which will be very helpful. They also have an easy stretch coming up (TB, @OAK, @WAS) which will also be very helpful.

9. (9) - Atlanta (2-1) - Coming off the bye and entering into a very tough four game stretch will tell us if the Falcons can actually compete with the Saints. Their next four games are @SF, CHI, @DAL, @NO.

10. (6) - New York Jets (3-1) - The Saints are a Super Bowl contending team and the Jets are probably a year or two away from actual Super Bowl contention. The Saints defense made Mark Sanchez look like an inexperienced rookie (like he actually is). But the Jets defense still played outstanding against one of the top offenses in the league.

On the Waiting List: Cincinnati, Chicago, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, San Francisco
